In the past years, Craiova, one of the bigger cities of the historical region called Oltenia*, has experienced a major process of revitalization of its historical centre. As a part of this process, the renovation of the old houses was conceived along with the creation of new urban spaces centred on murals and statues that make references to the local history or to the urban legends. Accordingly, students of Craiova`s art school designed and drawn the metal boxes that host electrical equipment. Statues representing local figures like the one of the boy who is selling newspapers and the one of the man who is waving goodbye in the railway station were placed in the important public places of the city, but especially in the squares of the old city.
* Oltenia is a region in the Western province of Wallachia, located between Danube, Southern Carpathians, and the Olt River.
